Coup Fatal is halfway between a danced concert, a lyrical play, a pop opera where Bach’s, Gluck’s, Handel’s or Monteverdi’s arias sway to the music of balafoes, likembes, xylophones, exude with a marching band of sappers, vanish to Nina Simone’s To Be Young, Gifted and Black songs. The performers, musicians from Kinshasa, are more tuned to traditional rythms than jazz or pop. It opens up new perspectives to counter-tenor Serge Kakudji. This celebration of music and bodies revisits the notion of harmony between Africa and Europe, bringing those continents together in musical fraternity.
